TadanoCo - Sound Makes Song

4o, also known as TadanoCo, is probably one of my favorite producers right now. Thought I don’t really get to listen to more than 5 of their songs, because I have apple music and the publishing of vocaloid songs on that platform is shockingly limited. Even so, I have been listening to those 5 songs on repeat for the past few weeks and I don’t think I’ll get tired of their music.
I’ll use SentO feat. Chis-A as an example, as it is my favorite song of theirs. Chis-A is a good voicebank and the way she was tuned to fit this song is something I haven’t really ever heard before. The way she was tuned almost makes her sound anguished, especially around 54 seconds in when she sings “ONせんでもいい キレたい イキれない パラリラ不良”.
This song’s lyrics aren’t particularly meaningful to me, but more often than not I am captured by the sound of the song alone. I feel like this remains a constant in most of 4o’s music, like in Therefore, You and Me (Yuenii You and Me). The song uses changing time signatures to make sure it’s not repetitive and utilizes two voice banks in a meaningful duet. Though, if you translate the lyrics you’ll find that sections of the song make no sense.
For example: “針の無い時計 足りない関係 空のシャンプー 満たされたゴミ どっちが要る? どっちもいらない?” directly translates to “A clock without it’s hands, an unfilled relationship. An empty shampoo, or a full garbage bag. Which do you want? You want neither?”
Of course, I could be missing some underlying meaning behind these lyrics, which I do often. Though I have come to greatly appreciate the fact that 4o doesn’t seem to need a deep meaning in a song to create a great song.
By saying this I do not mean to imply great that songs with great lyrics would be nothing without those lyrics, but it is refreshing to have a song with a nice sound, without the song being incredibly thought provoking. It’s nice to just listen to a song for what it is and enjoy it because of that.
